Something surprising to me was that all over Costa Rica, there were these eco friendly garbage cans. There was a section for food waste, a section for paper, a section for bottles, and a section for actual garbage. I never thought I would see these here because as a third world country, I expected them to have more pressing problems to concentrate their money and efforts on. After listening to a talk at the University of Georgia campus, I learned that Costa Rica is actually very environmentally conscious. Tourism is one of the countries largest incomes, and they have a focus on eco-tourism. They try to offset the co2 put into the atmosphere by peoples traveling in the country as well as plane rides by planting trees.
